Zyllem In-Route Optimization

Last September 2017, we rolled out a new feature called Zyllem In-Route Optimization, a technology for optimizing the sequence of delivery tasks assigned to a driver. Developed to improve the overall operational efficiency of our existing customers, this technology takes into consideration pre-determined factors such as the driving duration, preferred delivery windows, and relationships among delivery tasks (e.g., deliver is dependent on pick up).

One thing that sets this feature apart is its Dynamic Route Change capability, which allows the system to "push" tasks that were created as a result of an exception (or as part of an alternative process). For example, an ideal process may start with a 'pickup' from the warehouse and ends with a 'successful delivery' to the customer. But what if it was the wrong item and a redelivery is required on the same day? The algorithm recognizes that a new 'redelivery' task is created and pushes it into your ongoing operations so that it can be executed within its SLA and without compromising the driver's schedule. This is especially useful to businesses that have complex processes such as returns, redelivery, varied delivery windows, multiple pickup and drop-off points, etc.

Furthermore, we understand that changes and exceptions are unavoidable on the field. In case of cancellations and reassignment of tasks, this feature is smart enough to recalculate and reoptimize routes in real-time as the drivers progress with their deliveries.

When it comes to assigning additional tasks to a driver, we developed the following capabilities:

  • Previews - a preview of the driver's route that shows you the number of added stops and the added distance to his existing route.

  • Warnings - if the assignment exceeds the driver's capacity, it displays a warning that includes the number of customers that will be affected by late arrivals, and the length of delay in minutes or hours.

  • Suggestions - identifies the most suitable driver for the task based on the implications to the customer and the driver's route. Ultimately, it prefers the option that best upholds your SLAs and makes the least negative impact on driver efficiency.

Below is an example of an optimized route for 15 locations as seen on Zyllem Enterprise Portal.

Through Zyllem In-Route Optimization, deliveries with different delivery windows are easier to plan and fulfill. Maximum asset utilization is attainable even with complex business processes. Routes and driver schedules are more predictable with realistic time forecasts. Inherently, fuel efficiency, less vehicle wear and tear, and better overall operational efficiency can be achieved.
